Wholesome Apple Crumble

Apple crumble is hands down one of my favourite desserts - I just love the chewy / slightly crunchy crumble combined with the sweet and tangy stewed apples, topped with yoghurt / cream or icecream of course!

This recipe is lower in refined sugar than your typical crumble, and rich in prebiotic fibre from the stewed apples and nut meal. It’s so good you could even enjoy it for breakfast :)

INGREDIENTS

BASE

  • 5 Granny Smith apples cored and chopped.

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • Dash nutmeg

  • Juice of half an orange

  • 1/4 cup water

CRUMBLE

  • 1.5 cup rolled oats

  • 3/4 cup nut meal

  • 2 tbsp maple syrup

  • 2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/4 cup melted butter

METHOD

  1. Combine all base ingredients in a pot and cook over low heat until apple is soft.

  2. Stir all crumble ingredients together until combined.

  3. Spread base over a pie dish and top with the crumble.

  4. Bake for 40 at 180 degrees (keep watch to make sure the top doesn’t burn).

  5. Serve hot or cold with Greek yoghurt.

Enjoy!
